PERSÖNLICHES BESTES:
2:23:38 (Boston, 2006)

KARRIERE-ANMERKUNGEN:

Jeptoo entered international competition in 2000 racing primarily in Italy on the roads and in cross country meets. Her transition to the marathon was successful. After winning Stockholm in the spring of 2004, she trimmed more than seven minutes off her time to win Milan five months later. She followed that up with a seventh-place finish at the 2005 World Championships (2:24:22).

In other distances, she ran her best half marathon in New Delhi in 2005 with a 70:41 and in 2004 won half marathons in Rio de Janeiro and Napoli and put in a solid 14th place performance (73:08) at the World Championships Half Marathon.

Jeptoo's surprise victory in the 2006 Boston Marathon was the biggest win in her career to date, and vaulted her to the top of the World Marathon Majors Series leader board.

PERSÖNLICHES BESTES:

Jeptoo ran her first American race in Boston in 2006 saying, “I feel there are no secrets to training, just a lot of hard work. As all marathoners know, it takes a lot of kilometers and many long runs to get in shape.” The Boston hills did not intimidate her. “Given that Boston does have some hills, I did some specific hill work in Kenya. But even this, we Kenyans normally do in everyday training. We are surrounded by hills and mountains.” After spending so much time living and racing in Italy, Jeptoo says she has grown accustomed to certain aspects of Italian life: “I love Italian fashion!” Jeptoo married Jonah Koech in Kenya.
