KARRIERE-ANMERKUNGEN:

Ludmila Petrova has an extensive resume of marathon competition that spans 11 years as she first starting running marathons in 1997. In 1998, she won the Moscow Marathon setting a new course record (2:30:54) in the process. Later that year, she took on the New York as her first World Marathon Major competition, grabbing fourth in a respectable 2:31:09. A disappointing seventh-place finish at Boston in 1999 did not slow her marathon momentum however as Petrova revamped her training regimen and returned to New York in 2000 to claim a fast, 2:25:45 victory.

Her marathon success continued to fluctuate in 2001, placing seventh and sixth in Boston and New York respectively, before returning to the winner’s podium in 2002 with an all-time fastest third-place finish at London and a personal best (2:22:33). During that span, she took sixth place in the 2001 World 10,000m on the track (her best time is 31:36.76 in 2003).

In 2003 she returned to London to post a respectable time of 2:23:14, but that was only good enough for fifth place behind the then World Record pace of Paula Radcliffe (2:18:56). After repeating her fourth-place finish in New York, the London course was again kind to Petrova in 2004 as she finished a strong second in 2:26:02.

Petrova continued to perform well, running a 2:31:56 at the 2004 Athens Olympics to finish eighth, and earning fifth and sixth place finishes in London and New York in 2005 with sub 2:30 times. In her fifth London appearance in April, 2006, Petrova powered through the now familiar course to claim second place by posting a Russian National Record and personal best 2:21:29 behind U.S. record setter Deena Kastor’s 2:19:36.

Petrova did not begin to race seriously until the age of 26 and graduated to the marathon distance in 1997. She has two children, ages 17 and 12.
