CAREER NOTES:
Limo made a startling appearance in the 2000 Brussels 10,000m when he improved his best from 28:23.30 to 27:04.54, closing to within a second of winner Paul Tergat. He placed fourth in that race a year later (2001) in 27:26.86 and set a world road best for 15km of 41:29 at Nijmegen in November.
In 2002, he set a personal record with his win at the Swansea Road Race 10K (27:39) and his win at the Lisbon Half Marathon (1:01:15). That year he also placed sixth at the Seine St. Dennis 10K (28:02) and first at the Zwitserloot Dak Run with a time of 27:58.
He ran the second fastest ever time for a marathon debut (2:06:42) finishing second at Amsterdam in 2003 and was rated the world’s number two marathoner of 2004 when he won at both Rotterdam and Berlin. He added Chicago to his portfolio of major city marathon wins in 2005. In April 2006, Limo captured victory in the London Marathon, sprinting the final 200 meters to edge Martin Lel by two seconds.
