Boston Marathon Course Map
The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon (first run in 1897) and is considered one of the world's most prestigious road racing events, due in part to the fact that runners have to qualify just to participate. Around 20,000 runners take part in the race each year and they are cheered on by some half a million spectators who line the course.
Sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services, the event sees runners from all over the world brave the hilly New England terrain. The historic course starts on Main Street on Hopkinton Common and follows a route through Hopkinton, Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Heartbreak Hill, Brookline, Boston, and finally the welcome finish line near the Hancock Tower. It’s unique to the sporting calendar of major marathons being the only one that takes place on a Monday.
