CAREER NOTES:
After winning the Kenyan Armed Forces 30K championship Yego made his marathon debut in 2005, finishing third in 2:08:16 behind Alberico De Cecco’s course record on the cobblestone-lined Rome course. He then ran to the runner-up position at theING Amsterdam Marathon in a race set up to give Haile Gebrselassie a shot at the world record.
At New York City in 2006 Yego was in the chase going into Central Park and wound up fourth in 2:10:34.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Yego was born in Eldoret and lives and trains in Nairobi. He runs with the Ngong Marathon Group.
