CAREER NOTES:
James Koskei looked like he was going to make a big mark in his first marathon at Chicago in 2004 when he passed through the half in 1:03:42, but he faded in the later stages and wound up running 2:18:40. After a slight improvement at Las Vegas in 2005, he made a significant jump at Dubai in January 2007 posting a 2:14:02.
At the 2007 Boston Marathon, Koskei had his best finish yet, placing fourth behind three Kenyan countrymen. He was forced to drop out of the Chicago Marathon due to the unusually hot weather, but then picked up $25,000 for a victory at the White Rock Marathon at Dallas in December.
Koskei has long been a prominent fixture on the American road racing scene. He has been a past champion at the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K, Vancouver Sun Run 10K, Bay to Breakers 12K and Bolder Boulder 10K. Last year he was fifth at the Falmouth Road Race and Bobby Crim 10-Mile.
He brings good track speed to the marathon with PRs of 8:16.78 (2 miles), 13:04.30 (5000 meters) and 27:35.86 for 10,000 meters.
