CAREER NOTES:
Patrick Ivuti had a sensational marathon debut, running 2:07:46 good for 5th place at the 2005 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. He followed that with a couple of other marathons in Holland without the same degree of success: 2:14:23 at Amsterdam in 2006 and 2:12:24 at Rotterdam in April 2007.
But when he returned to Chicago in 2007 he ran his greateset 26.2-miler under extremely arduous conditions. With record-breaking heat and humidity and double world champion Jaouad Gharib challenging him to the tape, Ivuti prevailed by what officials said was five hundreths of a second in 2:11:11.
Ivuti has had some speedy runs for the half-marathon, breaking the one hour barrier at Lisbon in 2000 (59:31) and Rotterdam in 2006 (59:47). At the Hervis Prague International Half-Marathon in March 2007 he won with a course record of 1:01:00 and then returning to Rotterdam he set a personal best of 59:27 despite a fourth place.
He has also been a key member of the Kenyan team at the World Cross Country championships placing 2nd (1999), 4th (2000), 7th (2001) and 2nd (2003).
