CAREER NOTES:

Yared Asmeron became the first Eritrean marathoner to break 2 hours 20 minutes when he ran 2:16:45 at San Sebastian in 2004. He followed that with two more Eritrean national records at Hamburg, Germany running 2:15:36 in 2006 and 2:15:14 in 2007.

At the 2007 World Championships he placed fourth in 2:17:41 just holding off Japan's Tsuyoshi Ogata by one second. He earned five World Marathon Majors scoring points as he became the first from Eritrea to finish in the top five of a WMM race.

Perhaps his best race was the Medio Maratón Azkoitia-Azpeitia "Memorial Diego García" in March where he won and set a new national half-marathon record of 1:00:28. He was also ninth at the 2005 IAAF Half-Marathon World Championships.
