CAREER NOTES:

Dereje Debele Tulu finished second in his first marathon with an unusual field. All the elite marathoners were making their debuts and Debele came up with a sterling effort, 47 seconds off of winner Gilbert Kirwa of Kenya.

He followed that up with two more sub-2:10 marathons at Berlin and Dubai.

In 2008, Debele was second (1:12:01) at the Semi-Marathon Marvejols Mende at Lozere, France. He was seventh at the Great Ethiopian Run 10K.
