CAREER NOTES:
Genet Getaneh Wendimagegnehu has had a brief, but outstanding marathon career. At the Standard Chartered Marathon last January, Getaneh ran 2:26:37 and then almost matched that time with a 2:27:09 at Berlin in September. That was the fastest fifth place time ever run at the real,- Berlin Marathon.
At New Delhi, India in November 2008, Getaneh posted a 1:08:18 half-marathon PR after a hard battle and one second defeat to countrywoman Aselefech Mergia. A month prior to that, Getaneh just missed the medal podium, with a fourth place 1:10:03 at the IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships in Rio de Janeiro. She was also third (1:10:41) at the Semi-Marathon de Paris.
Getaneh first came to prominence when she produced a stunning upset to win the Great Ethiopian 10km in 2004. Among those left in her wake, were world-class stars Eyerusalem Kuma and Werknesh Kidane.
