CAREER NOTES:
Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova had an excellent year in 2009, twice breaking 2:26 in the marathon. In January she set a career best of 2:25:53 in Dubai and then four months later won her first marathon, missing her PR by just six seconds.
After not competing over that distance since 2009, Petrova Arkhipova returned with a well paced negative split 2:28:56 at Tokyo in February 2011. She lowered her PR to 2:25:01 at Berlin in September.
Her greatest moment of marathon glory came at the 2012 London Olympics. In the late stages of the race it was down to three Kenyans, three Ethiopians and Petrova-Arkhipova. She held on for the bronze medal and the 22 second deficit was the smallest between first and third at the Olympics.
Petrova has some notable achievements in the 3000m steeplechase. She took the silver medal at the 2006 European Athletics Championships and the following year she took another silver at the IAAF World Championships in a personal best time of 9:09.19. She came close to a medal at the 2008 Olympics, placing fourth.
