CAREER NOTES:

Although she came into New York City having won the Rome Marathon for three consecutive years, Firehiwot Dado Tufa's victory in New York City was still somewhat of a surprise.

Dado caught early leader Mary Keitany in Central Park and then dropped countrywoman Buzunesh Deba in the final miles to power to a 2:23:15 victory, breaking her PR by nearly a full minute.

Her winning time was the fastest ever by an Ethiopian and sixth fastest overall at New York City.

At Boston in 2012, Dado broke up the Kenyan top 5 with a fourth place finish in 2:34:56.
