CAREER NOTES:
Wilson Kiprotich Kipsang destroyed one of the greatest marathon fields ever assembled at the 2012 London Marathon. Although his winning time of 2:04:44 missed the course record by four seconds, he wound up more than two minutes ahead of the runner-up.
Kipsang also missed by four seconds the world record of 2:03:38 at Frankfurt last October. He is one of only two men (Haile Gebrselassie the other) to have broken 2:05 for the marathon on three occasions.
One of the strong favorites in the London Olympic Games Marathon, he opened up a 20-seconds lead in the first half. However, he fell off the pace over the final miles and wound up with the bronze medal.
Kipsang hoped to run the New York City Marathon in 2012, but it was cancelled so instead he competed at Honolulu in December where he won in 2:12:31.
He has great speed for the half-marathon with a 58:59 personal best. In 2009 Kiprang was fourth at the IAAF Half-Marathon World Championships.
