CAREER NOTES:
After winning the Kenyan Armed Forces 30K championship Yego made his marathon debut in 2005, finishing third in 2:08:16 behind Alberico De Cecco’s course record on the cobblestone-lined Rome course. He then ran to the runner-up position at the ING Amsterdam Marathon in a race set up for Haile Gebrselassie's shot at the world record.
At New York City in 2006 Yego was in the chase going into Central Park and wound up fourth in 2:10:34.
In June 2007, Yego finally won his first marathon with a near 2-minute triumph at San Diego's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. He was one of the many non-finisher casualties at Chicago but came back to earn a seventh place at the Fukuoka Marathon in December.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Yego was born in Eldoret and lives and trains in Nairobi. He runs with the Ngong Marathon Group.
