Charity Running at the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON

Running for charity has not been something common in Germany some years ago. Though Germans donate huge sums annually for charity this had not happened in conjunction with sports. The organisers of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON have adapted charity running after watching the tremendous impact it had at the Flora London Marathon and at other Anglo-American races. Running for charity is meanwhile developing well in Germany. And the annual sums donated by runners and their friends at the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON are increasing from year to year. The v. Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten Bethel are the official charity partner of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON.

Europe’s largest Protestant charity institution for more integration of people with disabilities

At the real,- BERLIN MARATHON, the organisers of Germany’s largest marathon event, SCC-RUNNING and the v. Bodelschwingh Institute Bethel, Europe’s largest Protestant charity organisation (Diakonie), are doing their part for more integration of people with disabilities. Bethel has been the charity partner of the real,- BERLIN MARATHON since 2005. The successful partnership will be continued in 2006.

Together, both partners want to publicly promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities, to help them to participate fully in life, and, in doing so, to emphasise the importance of sport for this group, too. 

Within the framework of the charity partnership, people with disabilities participate in numerous SCC-RUNNING events together with other runners.  During the 33rd real,- BERLIN MARATHON, the work of the v. Bodelschwingh Institute Bethel will be presented. Part of the registration fees will also be used to support disabled people through Bethel, and the athletes and sports enthusiasts are also encouraged to make donations to Bethel if they would like.
