CAREER NOTES:

Viktor Rothlin is Switzerland's greatest marathon runner. He was the first Swiss to break 2:11 in 2001, to break 2:10 in 2004 and to break 2:09 in 2007. That last performance of 2:08:19.2 also won him the Zurich Marathon for the second time.

Rothlin started 2008 by breaking the 2:08 barrier at the Tokyo International Marathon as his 2:07:23 was also a record for the new course and fourth fastest time ever run in the Japanese capital.

At the Osaka 2007 World Championships Marathon he became the first Swiss to medal, earning the bronze. His third place finish also equalled the best Swiss finish in a World Marathon Majors race, first achieved by Werner Meier at the 1983 Berlin Marathon.

In May he was third at the Grand Prix von Bern 10-Mile (49:30) and in July he won his third consecutive Ageriseelauf 14.5 km.
