CAREER NOTES:
Moroccan Olympian Khalid el Boumlili debuted in January 2004 with a win at the Marraekesh Marathon in 2:10:49.
At the Athens Olympics in his second marathon El Boumlili led in the early stages and stayed with the front pack until 20k but dropped out soon after because of a back injury.
Bouncing back, el Boumlili ran to sixth at the Amsterdam Marathon. At Boston, he led with Stephen Kiogora up the Newton hills before dropping out due to warm temperatures and dehydration.
In 2006 he ran to a first place at the Casablanca Marathon and the following January placed sixth and second in Dubai and Marrakesh despite only 16 days between the two races.
At Boston in 2008, el Boumlili had his best World Marathon Masters finish with a third in a PR 2:10:35.
PERSONAL NOTES:
El Boumlili trains at altitude in Irfune and in Mekonnes with the Moroccan national team. Before focusing on competitive running, el Boumlili was a cyclist. El Boumlili is single, has three brothers and two sisters and enjoys listing to Middle Eastern music and watching sports.
