CAREER NOTES:
David Mandago's first marathon of 2008 was the fastest of his career. After zipping through the first half in 1:03:17, he held on to set a personal record by more than a minute with a 2:07:23 victory at the Conergy Marathon in Hamburg, Germany this past April.
However, his second place 2:07:37 at Chicago in October was arguably a much better effort given the hot race day conditions. At 30 kilometers he was still even with eventual winner Evans Cheruiyot and ended up missing his PR by just 14 seconds.
In the last four years Mandago picked up other marathon wins at Rome, Montreal, Lausanne and Naples.
Mandago also lowered his half marathon PR in 2008. He finished third in 1:00:23 at the Maratonina Rome-Ostia in late February.
