CAREER NOTES:

Bernard Kipyego has been one of the more consistent elite marathoners over the past three years. He has run two races in the 2:06s, three more in the 2:07s, and another in 2:08. The only race that was a slow time, 2:13:13, came on a warm day at Boston in 2012 and running a tactical race he still placed third.

Kipyego has a strong cross-country background, winning the silver medal in the junior race at the IAAF World Championships in 2005 and a bronze medal in the senior race in 2007. He also has excellent track credentials with a 26:59.61 PR for 10,000 metres at the 2007 Van Damme meeting.

He has multiple sub-one hour times in the half-marathon, topped by a 59:10 at Rotterdam in 2009.

Kipyego started running in 2002 and is coached by steeplechaser Patrick Sang. His training partners include William Kipsang, Emmanuel Mutai, Francis Kiprop and Richard Limo. He trains in Chirchir centre, near Kaptagat on trails at about 8,000 feet above sea level.
