CAREER NOTES:
Umeki went through the 2:10 barrier in style at Berlin in 2003. Performances at his other marathons since haven’t been at quite the same level, but Umeki has been running consistent times at 10,000m on the track and for the half-marathon, including a 1:02:09 in 2006, only four seconds outside his best from 2002. He’s been a member of national teams, helping Japan take silver at the World Championships Half Marathon in Brussels in 2002..
Umeki placed third in the 2006 real,- Berlin Marathon and 18th there in 2007.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Umeki was a graduate of Waseda University and currently lives in Hiroshima. In Japan he competes for the Chugoku Electric team.
