CAREER NOTES:
Felix Limo startled the running world three days after his 20th birthday when he placed second in the 2000 Van Damme 10,000m in 27:04.54, less than a second behind his legendary countryman Paul Tergat.
At the 2001 Nijmegen 15K, Limo was not only able to beat Ethiopian great Haile Gebrselassie, but he also set a World Record in the process with a time of 41:29. In 2002, he set a personal record with his win at the Swansea Road Race 10K (27:39) and he set a personal best at the Lisbon Half Marathon (1:01:15). Also in 2002, he placed sixth at the Seine St. Dennis 10K in 28:02 and won the Zwitserloot Dak Run with a time of 27:58.
Limo made his marathon debut at the 2003 Amsterdam Marathon where he raced to second place with a remarkable time of 2:06:42. At the time was the second fastest marathon debut. In 2004 he sped to a new course record with his win at the Rotterdam Marathon in 2:06:14, the sixth fastest marathon time ever posted.
At the 2004 real,- Berlin Marathon, Limo triumphed in poor weather conditions with his first major win in 2:06:44. He again displayed his racing acumen and dominance in The 2005 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, notching another major victory in 2:07:02. In April 2006, he won a second consecutive big league title by capturing victory in the Flora London Marathon by sprinting the final 200 meters to edge Martin Lel by two seconds.
Limo could not defend his LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon title in 2006 because of back pain. At London in 2007, Lel got a measure of revenge as he outkicked Limo who also wound up a place behind Abderrahim Goumri. He also ran at Chicago later in the year but after passing 25-K in 1:18:30 he was unable to finish the race.
