Today, 1 in 5 children will grow up to develop skin cancer, which is currently the number one cancer killer among women ages 25-29. However, skin cancer is 95% preventable and 95% treatable if caught early.
SHADE Foundation of America was established in 2002 by Shonda Schilling, melanoma survivor and wife of Red Sox Pitcher, Curt Schilling. The SHADE Foundation of America’s mission is to “eradicate melanoma through educating children and the community in the prevention and detection of melanoma and the promotion of sun safety.” SHADE Foundation of America has funded over 100 SHADE cover grants to schools and community organizations, provided sun safety education to over 100,000 school children, and conducted over 5,000 free skin cancer screenings at health fairs and community events.
In 2008 SHADE Foundation of America holds places in the Boston, Chicago, and New York Marathons. Join our team for one of the World Major Marathon races and help us save lives!
