Abbott renews title sponsorship of World Marathon Majors

World Marathon Majors is delighted to announce that Abbott, the global healthcare company, has renewed its agreement as title sponsor of the series.

The continued partnership will take the relationship into its second decade. Since the beginning of the association between Abbott and the World Marathon Majors, there have been unprecedented levels of growth and interest in the world’s greatest marathon series.

Over one million runners apply for places across the six races each year and, among them, many are moving along their Six Star journey in a bid to earn the coveted AbbottWMM Six Star Medal. The Six Star Medal debuted under this partnership in 2015 and, following the completion of the 2023 marathon season, more than 12,700 runners have so far received their Six Star Medal.

Just this past spring, we set a world record in Tokyo for the most Six Star finishers in a single race when more than 3,000 runners completed their journey on March 5, 2023.

As well as providing everyday runners with the chance to complete the Grand Slam of mass participatory sport, the Abbott World Marathon Majors also continues to provide the largest platform for the world’s greatest marathon runners.

Series XV in 2023 saw the men’s able-bodied world record fall in Chicago, the women’s able-bodied record re-written in Berlin and the women’s wheelchair record broken by the first four athletes across the line – also in Berlin.

“We are thrilled to continue this journey with Abbott by our side,” said AbbottWMM CEO Dawna Stone. “The connection between Abbott’s mission to help people live life to the fullest through their ground-breaking health technologies and our goal to inspire the world through marathons, is a perfect synergy.”

“For nearly a decade, our partnership with the Abbott World Marathon Majors has allowed us to celebrate all that we can achieve when we prioritize our health,” said Melissa Brotz, chief marketing and communications officer at Abbott.

“Together, we’ve created incredible experiences throughout race weekend, and as our partnership continues, we know we will inspire more runners to join in the excitement of this sport as they prioritize their own health journeys.”
