Abbott World Marathon Majors statement on Liliya Shobukhova

Given the official communication from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) regarding the disqualification of Liliya Shobukhova's competitive results as of Oct. 9, 2009, Abbott World Marathon Majors will amend the standings for WMM Series IV and WMM Series V and confirm a woman's series winner.

Under AWMM rules, no athlete who has been in breach of IAAF anti-doping rules can win a World Marathon Majors Series title.

Abbott World Marathon Majors has long held a firm stance against drug takers and cheats since its inception in 2006. Recently the organization expanded aggressive, global out-of-competition drug testing of elite athletes in collaboration with the IAAF; more details can be found here.
