Age Group World Rankings revamped for 2023

Exciting changes are now in operation for the 2023 Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Rankings.

This fifth edition of the rankings is now the largest road race series in the world, with over 350 marathons spanning six continents, offering runners the opportunity to earn a place on the global rankings list in their age group.

In another exciting development for 2023, the rankings system is moving to a ‘one and done’ model. Simply put: an athlete’s fastest performance will determine their ranking.

Additionally, as a new qualification route for the Age Group World Championship, any athlete achieving the Automatic Qualifying Time in their age group in a single race will immediately receive an invitation to the next World Championship. Runners MUST be registered with AbbottWMM.com in order to receive an invite.

Runners who do not run the Automatic Qualifying Time can still receive an invitation to enter the World Championship. The number of athletes receiving these invites will be determined based on the full field size and the number of athletes achieving the qualifying time.

There is also the opportunity for athletes anywhere in the world to qualify through the AbbottWMM Global Marathon.

Held in spring and autumn, the virtual race is staged within the AbbottWMM Global Run Club and offers the chance to earn one of 200 places in the 2024 world championship. Full details can be found in the Global Run Club.

The rankings, location and field size for the 2024 event will be announced in the coming weeks.
