Boston set for Six Star race record

The 2023 Boston Marathon will record its highest ever total of Six Star Finishers on April 17.

Over 700 runners have confirmed with AbbottWMM.com that they will be completing their sixth Major at the 127th edition of the race on Patriots’ Day.

The number follows a world-record amount of Six Star Finishers in Tokyo in March where over 3,000 runners completed their final AbbottWMM race to claim their Six Star medal.

The previous high in Boston was 582 in 2019, the same year the Six Star Hall of Fame passed the 5,000 mark.

The grand total now stands at 11,155 ahead of the back-to-back week in which Boston and the TCS London Marathon will take place six days apart.

It’s the first time the traditional Boston-London schedule has been reinstated since before the on-set of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boston will also see world record-holder Eliud Kipchoge take part in his fifth Major as he continues his quest to become the first able-bodied athlete to win all six AbbottWMM races.

He requires Boston and the TCS New York City Marathon to sweep the full set of winner’s medals.

Another famous face set to earn her Six Star Medal in Boston is German star Irina Mikitenko.

The three-time AbbottWMM series champion has victories in London, Berlin and Chicago on her record, and re-ignited her own Six Star journey in 2019 when she ran the TCS New York City Marathon to earn her fifth star.
