Elite Series winners confirmed

The four AbbottWMM Elite Series winners have been announced following the culmination of the TCS New York City Marathon.

Sebastian Sawe was confirmed as the men’s champion after winning in London and Berlin - those two victories meant he reached 50 points.

Jacob Kiplimo, who won in Chicago, and Alphonce Simbu, who took World Championship gold, both finished on 41 points. As happens when athletes are tied, a race director vote will decide second and third place.

In the women's series, Hellen Obiri's win in New York and Sharon Lokedi's runner-up meant they joined Tigst Assefa on 41 points.

Race directors were unable to split the trio, who all had outstanding seasons, and decided they should share the title.

It meant that Obiri has now won the previous two series in succession.

The wheelchair categories were more straightforward with Marcel Hug and Susannah Scaroni having secured the titles after winning in Chicago last month.

Hug has now won the series three times in a row while Scaroni regained the title she won in 2023.
