Marcel Hug stretched his winning streak to five races in this AbbottWMM series as he stormed to his sixth Bank of America Chicago Marathon title.
The Swiss legend wasted little time in taking command of this contest, hitting the front after five minutes. He initially had Great Britain’s David Weir for company as the pair ticked off the first five kilometers together, but by 10km Hug had a 17-second advantage.
His halfway lead was more than 90 seconds as he continued to charge after his own Chicago course record - which would eventually evade him - and by the finish he was more than four minutes clear of Weir, who edged out Japan’s Tomoki Suzuki for second place.
Hug has an unassailable lead in the AbbottWMM series for 2025, and his fellow Chicago wheelchair champion Susannah Scaroni has also sealed the series title on the women's side.

The American lead by over two minutes at the halfway mark which was enough to get her across the line first despite a rousing comeback by the chasing pack.
Behind her, Manuela Schär and Tatyana McFadden were separated by just one second to take second and third place respectively, just 49 seconds back from the champion.
Scaroni adds Chicago to victories in Boston and Sydney, plus second-place finishes in Tokyo and London, to cement herself at the top of the women’s wheelchair leaderboard.
Hug now has the maximum number of points any athlete can achieve in a single season, while Scaroni can still add a fourth victory to max out her season’s points tally if she can claim first place at the TCS New York City Marathon.
