Liz Yelling and Sonja Oberem run real,- Berlin Marathon

Britain's Liz Yelling will come back to the German capital to run the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON on 24th September. Besides the Olympic Champion and course record holder Mizuki Noguchi (Japan/2:19:12) Gete Wami (Ehtiopia/2:22:19) and Sonja Oberem (Germany) will be among the contenders in a strong women's field. 40,000 runners will take part in the 33rd real,- BERLIN-MARATHON. No further entries are accepted for the race.

31 year-old Liz Yelling will aim for a personal best and the first sub 2:30 time of her marathon career. So far she features a PB of 2:30:58, which she ran at her debut marathon in Berlin in 2003. That year she had finished eighth. Liz Yelling runs for the same club as Paula Radcliffe: Bedford & County AC. Additionally she shares the coach Alexander Stanton with the marathon world record holder (2:15:25).

One who is also looking for a sub 2:30 is Sonja Oberem. She had originally ended her career when finishing 2:26:53 for third place in Berlin two years ago. After giving birth the 33 year-old now decided to go for a comeback and will run her first marathon after the break in Berlin. "When I resumed training in February it had already been a dream to be ready for the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON. Now I am happy that it worked. It would be great to break 2:30", Sonja Oberem said. She has a personal best of 2:26:13 and has placed eighth in the Olympic Marathon in 1996. Additionally she was fifth at the World Championships in 2001.
