Leaving a lasting footprint in New York City

To leave a lasting footprint on behalf of the thousands of runners whocross the finish line on Sunday is the goal of this year's Abbott World Marathon Majors charity program at the TCS New York City Marathon.

For every runner whocompletes their 26.2mile journey, Abbott World Marathon Majors will donate $1, with the total amount raised being split between the two chosen charities for 2018.

Executive Director of Abbott World Marathon Majors, Tim Hadzima explained, "We want to support the local community and give back on behalf of all the runners. Whether they are our elite runners, our wheelchair athletes, our Six Star finishers or the thousands of others that cross the finish line, our donation celebrates their achievement in the host city.

"We are delighted to be supporting the Rising New York Road Runners and Beyond Type 1 this year. Both have a big impact within New York City and nationwide and we know our donations will go towards very important programs that can make a difference."

Rising New York Road Runners is the New York Road Runners new youth and events platform that offers free youth programs in schools, after-school clubs, community centers and free events in New York City. It caters to kids in NYC and Nationwide from pre-K through to 12th grade.

They will receive their donation on behalf of the top four American finishers (men open and wheelchair, women open and wheelchair) to celebrate the elite athletes and the success of the home-grown talent.

Rachel Pratt, Senior Vice President, Youth and Community Services of New York Road Runners said, "New York Road Runners is thrilled that Abbott World Marathon Majors is donating $25,000 to Rising New York Road Runners on behalf of the top American finishers at the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon. Rising New York Road Runners, our flagship youth fitness program, which serves nearly 250,000 kids annually, equips kids of all ages and abilities with the skills and confidence to stay healthy and active for life. It's with the support of those in the running community, such as the Abbott World Marathon Majors, that makes it possible for us to inspire the next generation of runners."

Beyond Type 1 is an official TCS New York City Marathon charity partner that will be represented by 15-20 runners on race day. They aim to use the power of social media to educate the global community about this autoimmune disease as, as well as providing resources and supporting those living the Type 1 diabetes.

Sam Talbot, Chef and co-founder of Beyond Type 1 added, "Beyond Type 1 is so grateful to receive this support from Abbott World Marathon Majors this year. It's always awesome to bring our community together at events like the TCS New York City Marathon, and this gift strengthens Beyond Type 1's work to educate, advocate and cure Type 1 diabetes."
