Duos make history in Tokyo

The 2025 Tokyo Marathon marked a special moment for the AbbottWMM Six Star program as the Six Star medal was awarded to duo teams for the first time.

The race opened the category for a small trial in this year’s edition, allowing four duos to compete.

Setting off just after the elite wheelchair athletes, the teams contained two pairs of participants both receiving their Six Star medals, Ross Ormond pushing Andrew McAllister, and Max Fink pushing Michael Sayih.

Troy Pruett also earned his Six Star medal, pushed by Kelly Richards, for whom Tokyo was star No.5.

McAllister said: “It feels great! To be able to do it in the way we did it, running all the races together and to do it with a friend has been phenomenal. Every race we’ve been to has been so welcoming and so helpful to let us do it, so we couldn’t be more happy.”

“This is a dream come true for us,” said Fink. “Our first race was Chicago in 2021, and to be one of the first duos to complete the six is a milestone moment for the differently-abled community. We’re just so excited to break barriers for the differently-abled and show that anything is possible.”
