Romanchuk's reign on hold

In the week of his 22nd birthday, Daniel Romanchuk sits atop the leaderboard of Series XIII of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.

Under normal circumstances, a second straight series title could be within his grasp, but as the marathon world continues to wait for a return to racing, it is worth looking back at what has been a meteoric rise for the University of Illinois student.

Romanchuk began placing in Majors a couple of years before his breakthrough, and in 2018 the chatter began to increase from the circuit that this was a young man with a huge future in front of him.

That summer, AbbottWMM took its cameras to the training facility at the University in Champaign to dig a little deeper into the progress of the then-19-year-old.
