Schär and Romanchuk return to defend London titles

The reigning Abbott World Marathon Majors wheelchair series champions will return to London in 2020 to defend their titles.

Manuela Schär and Daniel Romanchuk both won on The Mall in 2019 on their way to winning Series XII, and both have been dominating their sport in recent years.

Schär smashed her own world record at the end of 2019 when she clocked ‪1:35:42in Oita, having racked up nine consecutive AbbottWMM race victories, a run that stretches back to Berlin in 2018, where she had originally set the world record.

Romanchuk's rise to the top of the men's division has been rapid. The 21-year-old earned his first win in Chicago in 2018 and went on to take out New York City, Boston and London the following spring, before repeating his Chicago and New York victories in 2019.

Both athletes currently top their respective AbbottWMM leaderboards, with London serving as the fifth race of Series XIII. This edition will also incorporate the Paralympic wheelchair marathon before concluding with the fall Majors in Berlin and Chicago.
