Who can win the Women's Elite Series?

Sifan Hassan, Sharon Lokedi and Hellen Obiri will line up in New York on Sunday knowing they could overtake Tigst Assefa and win the AbbottWMM Elite Series.

A thrilling finale is in store but what are the different permutations to look out for as the runners race through Central Park?

Hassan and Lokedi can both win the series with a victory in New York.

Hassan can draw level with Assefa if she comes second and Lokedi finishes behind her. Hassan's third place in London would be usurped by her second place in New York and added to her win in Sydney, but Assefa beats her on head-to-head from their race in London.

Lokedi can draw level with Assefa with a second-place finish if Hassan finishes behind her. A race director vote would decide the winner.

Assefa can win the series if Hassan and Lokedi finish third or lower.

There is currently a tie for second place and that could go to an race director vote if Hassan finishes third or lower. If Lokedi finishes third and Hassan finishes behind her then the former wins on a head-to-head but will force a vote between herself and Hawi Feysa.

Obiri can reach 41 pts if she wins on Sunday. If Lokedi comes second, there would be a three-way tie, since she and Obiri would have one win over the other and no head to head with Assefa forcing a race director vote.

Current standings

41 points - Tigst Assefa

34 points - Hawi Feysa

34 points - Sifan Hassan

26 points - Rosemary Wanjiru

25 points - Sharon Lokedi

25 points - Hellen Obiri

Rules Reminder

An athlete’s best two scores count towards their final series total. They must take part in two races in the series to be eligible for prize money.

Athletes on tied scores can be separated by any head-to-head outcomes during the series. If there are no head to heads, a race director vote is needed to break the tie.
